My favourite tool ever

Over the years, I have been using one type of tool for creating my art.

My tool of choice is a digital camera; there are analog cameras, but I began this career 4 years ago.

Every decade there is a unique type of camera that was designed to capture life around us.

A personal luxury for those who cherish moments in life.

Many photographers and filmmakers will agree, there is no better camera than the one you have on you.

Why is that?

Because if you do not have any tools to capture life then you are basically shit out of luck…

And thus, the modern camera of choice is our “phones” as they are always with us wherever we go.

So let’s dive into some images that were captured on different “cameras” over the years from my camera addiction, love for the craft and curious mind.

Created with a modern Sony digital camera and lens ($4000+)

The lens comes out of the body when turned on; $300 point and shoot camera.

My LEAD image for National Geographic taken on a Leica (the camera everyone wants).

Shout out to the people in Vietnam taken on a $20 film camera.

I built my entire photography career on a Fuji camera ($800).

Sunset on airplane

I went through over 10+ cameras in 4 years…

However, it taught me a valuable lesson about understanding the tool needed for the job.

And on most occasions, any camera would have gotten the job done.

As an artist, you do not want to fight your tool since the focus of your work is to freely create without worrying if it actually did what you needed it to.

On the other hand, understanding the limitations of a tool can teach you to be more creative with it.

The point is…

90% of people are creating photos and videos for fun, which means 90% of cameras are good enough.

A nice camera is like a nice car or nice jewelry or whatever luxury item you love.

Keep in mind, this is a dream job for me and a dream job is still a JOB .

My clients expect a result and certain situations calls for certain tools.

However, always have fun. Because life is boring if we don’t try to have fun.

Go have fun - DUY
